FAQ / FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHAT IS A “LOOK”?
One outfit/wardrobe option in one hair/make-up look. We do not shoot multiple outfits, hairstyles or make up changes in one look. (Yes, you can take a jacket on/off.)
DO YOU REQUIRE OR PROVIDE HAIR/MAKE-UP ARTISTS?
Nope! It is up to you. Options:
DIY: If you are comfortable getting yourself ready, right on! OR have your hair/make-up done just prior to your shoot. Either way, bring any tools or products you need to adjust or touch up.
Hire a HMU (hair+make-up artist): Book an extra hour of studio time prior to the shoot and hire a trusted HMU artist of your own, OR one of my preferred artists. Regardless, know that I do my best to keep an eye on hair and make-up during the shoot and am happy to offer up recommendations for changes to your looks. (PRO TIP: Sephora or Benefit are nearby on 4th St. Show the make-up artist my website so they get my look and shooting style. Consider taking a make-up lesson so you are empowered to do your own face for the shoot and the future!)
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
This depends entirely on whether you are an actor, model, professional - there is no one size fits all answer. If you have talent agents, be on the same page with them about what looks/wardrobe they want to see for casting. If you are a professional, know if your company has any guidelines for backgrounds or wardrobe, etc. Once you contact me via email we can discuss your individual needs. For inspiration, search my website for shots that speak to you, and consider things like flattering colors, necklines, textures, and layers. You are welcome to email me some selfies of you in potential wardrobe you have in mind in advance of your shoot, and/or simply bring a bunch of favorite clothing if you are unsure, and I will help you decide on what works best for camera in person. Don’t be shy - it’s fun to have options and gives me insight into your style.
SHOULD I WEAR MY GLASSES?
If you wear glasses all the time and they are a usual part of your identity and look, yes! BUT, please bring a pair of frames with lenses removed for shooting so we do not have to fight the glare!
WHERE DO SHOOTS TAKE PLACE?
Shoots take place in and/or around my inviting natural light filled studio in the historic Berkeley Kitchen Building and surrounding neighborhood which offers beautiful light, textures and settings. Please let me know if you have a strong preference for interior or exterior, or a combination of both, when inquiring about your shoot.
WHEN AND HOW DO I ACCESS MY PROOF IMAGES?
Each shoot includes a beautiful online gallery live for one month, which I provide within a week of your shoot. You may view, like, share and download your images via the gallery. Note that proof images are just that - PROOFS - they may require adjustment, cropping, color correction before use. I suggest you download them all and back them up on an external hard drive as I do not store images long term.
DO YOU INCLUDE RETOUCHING IN THE SESSION FEE?
Not everyone needs or wants it, so I don’t include it up front - that way you aren’t being charged for something you don’t require. Additionally, some actor clients prefer the photo lab where they will make prints to provide that service, others have a trusted retoucher they’d like to use. Lifestyle and full body shots are way more forgiving and rarely require much if anything, but for HEADSHOTS, it is essential to have basic retouching done as we are focused and zoomed in on your FACE. You’ve come this far - be sure your images are polished and look their absolute best before going out into the world!
WHAT IS BASIC RETOUCHING?
Basic retouching to me is a less-is-more retouching approach that addresses distracting flaws and makes refinements but still leaves you looking like the best version of “you” - on a good day. Cleaning up things such as fly-away and stray hairs, blemishes, lint, etc., slight whitening/sharpening of eyes and teeth, subtle skin/wrinkles/pore smoothing have a huge impact while still preserving a natural look.
WHAT IF I HAVE SPECIAL RETOUCHING REQUESTS?
If you have special requests outside basic retouching, please inquire for a custom quote.
WHAT IMAGE USES ARE ALLOWED?
Your proof images are yours to use for your self-promotion, social media and personal purposes, however, I do retain copyright of the images so any third party use must be approved by me. Additionally, please remember to tag @kirstenlaragetchell on social media and credit ©Kirsten Lara Getchell / klgphotography.com where appropriate.
WHAT ONLINE PHOTO LABS DO YOU RECOMMEND FOR HEADSHOT RETOUCHING AND PRINTS?
WHAT IS YOUR CANCELATION POLICY?
I require a $195 non-refundable deposit payable via Venmo @klgphotography to hold your shoot date.
WHAT IF I NEED TO RESCHEDULE?
You may reschedule one time without forfeiting your deposit if it is more than 5 days from your scheduled shoot. If it is less than 5 days from your shoot, to avoid forfeiting your deposit, you will need to pay your balance due in order to reschedule a new date. If you must reschedule a second time at any point, I will keep $195 as a cancelation fee. Any remaining balance you paid may be used towards a future shoot date, but you will have to pay another $195 deposit to schedule it and start the process over. No-shows will result in forfeiture of your $195 deposit as a cancelation fee.
